Citizens Committee’s concerns, demands and comments

REQUESTS OF THE CITIZENS
- A more accommodating rate of rent and utility payment calculation that applies more accurately to the residents of the neighborhood
- A majority say in the ratification of the lease, including the presence of the committee at the singing of the lease
- The acknowledgement of the citizens committee as a representative body of the neighborhood of Little Burgundy
- The recognition of other organized committees throughout the Montreal Gray zone
- Direct involvement in the ongoing administration of Little Burgundy, including a say over how the the neighborhood is developed and input on future developments.
- Citizens expropriated are given priority on new housing developments, along with enough housing being provided to accommodate all citizens of effected neighborhoods
PRIMARY CONCERNS OF THE COMMITTEE
- Increases in surveillance and inspections.
- Transparency in all forms during the process, along with continued support for community input following the projects completion
- Ensuring the people of Little Burgundy enjoy a process that is beneficial to every single resident.
IMPACT ON RESIDENTS
- A number of residents report struggling to find suitable housing after the expropriation
- A number of residents, even with the assistance from the city and province lack the ability to move out of the area, often struggling to even afford alternative costs.
- A number of homes which were located by the city are not suitable for living for a multitude of reasons, such as
COMMITTEES ACTIONS
- Committee has worked towards organizing protests, marches and public meetings.
- In addition, the group has been officially recognized by the city and has direct communications with those in charge of the revitalization project.
